THE TED NUGENT REFLECTING FLAG GUITARGIBSON LES PAULAn Extraordinary ONE OF A KIND PIECE OF ART BY THE ARTIST-el daga. A DESCRIPTION OF THIS GUITAR FROM ITS CREATOR, EL DAGA.THE TED NUGENT GLOFLAG GUITAR.THIS GUITAR REFLECTS ALL LIGHT. ESPECIALLY IN LOW LIGHT AND WITH STAGE LIGHTS. ALL COVERING IS REFLECTIVE.From the words of eld about this guitar:Every time I try to say "Ted Nugent", people hear me say "Ted Nougat" . Do I care? No. As a youngster in Mexico City, I heard "Cat Scratch Fever" and I thought he was saying to get a cat to scratch you if you got a fever. I tried that one time when I was very very sick with a fever. I grabbed the local street cat and started bending his tail while holding him on my chest. To this day, I have a cat scratch scarred belly. La Ninas no like. But I still like Mr. Ted Nugent but still cannot say his name.Last week, I saw a picture of him playing a US flag guitar. I liked that guitar very much and I like the US very much and I like Mr. Ted Nugent very much so I made this guitar. It is a Gibson Les Paul. I have used reflective material to make it look like his guitar but the difference is that mine glows in the dark. It is all reflective on the front and back. I tried a strobe light on it and IT LOOKED LIKE THE FLAG WAS BLOWING IN THE WIND. If you are a big fan of Mr. Nugent, buy this guitar and put it on your wall at home. It will glow in the dark and keep you awake. If you play the music of Mr. Nugent, you will "shine" on every song. And IF YOU ARE MR. NUGENT, I WILL GIVE YOU THIS GUITAR AS A GIFT. His concentration is on form and content. eld's work focus on the themes of the transformation of everyday materials, social engagement with the public, and the impact of music, popular media and performance. Most recently, eld has approached the concept of performative art by looking at the combination of art form (as object) that transforms into performance art (content) by use of light and sound with interaction of performance artist. He has adopted the locution "Ephemeral Performative Art" to provide ascription to this current body of work. Eld is serving as the protagonist for this new and refreshing art form. His initial work began as an exploration into what percipients respond to while experiencing a live concert of musicians playing traditional musical instruments. Beyond feeling the throbbing of the musical sounds and hearing the musicality of the performance, Eld quickly recognized the underutilization of the basic principle of sensory stimulation in regard to the performative actions of the artist. Traditionally the use, and overuse, of lighting and visual effects have become more distractive than contributory to the total pleasurable and meaningful sensory experience of the viewer. Having worked as a visual artist and played guitar, Eld immediately combined the impacts of light and musical instrument to produce truly unique and defining pieces of performative art. By adhering to his basic philosophy of "escultra social"-social sculpture, he gathered a wide variety of used electric and acoustic guitars and combined them with other commonly available everyday materials to produce his "Ephemeral Performative Art" pieces. He soon coined the monkier "El Reflecto" to describe his first pieces that utilize highly light reflective material on guitars to make them interact individually and specifically to all light sources. With an "El Reflecto" guitar, the performing artist now becomes an art object him/herself by allowing the guitar to respond and react to all light sources or as he describes it "the guitar receives and transmits light as it becomes an integral part of the performance". Not only is this art form revolutionary, it is also totally complementary to any artist performance. Eld has also extended his artistic liberty to the creation of other pieces that combine the complimentary (wood and leather) and contrarian (metal and wood) in single instruments which assume personalities of their own as well as the use of collaging to "recreate" art. Many of these pieces are collaged with images taken from his past experiences and current life events. Eld creates each, and every, piece of his performative art completely from his mindset at the time it is sculpted. Mostly he will reinterpret existing instruments into a new personality piece. el daga says: "I describe my work as 'interpretive' as well as 'creative', perhaps aptly described as 'recreative' wherein I take an existing work of art and 'recreate it'.""Many times I look at an artist's work and 'listen to it'. Sometimes it is the sound of music (in all of its many forms) and other times it is simply noise. In my new work with musical instruments I have matched artists and, or, specific pieces of art with musical instruments that convey to me the 'music of the art'. el daga's Background-in his words:"Born and lived in Mexico City where I practiced my art while also undertaking the work of a simple laborer interacting with materials and their daily use. It was during that time that I began to see every object before my eyes as art and my work in combining different elements and components as being that which entitled me to the appellation 'ARTISTA' In 1990 I moved into my nightmare-South Central in 1990. I was there in 1992 when the streets exploded and anger tore at the sky. Nights-days-and the deviland became my home behind a locked and bound door. My torment became manifest in my work. Once the skies cleared and chaos became organized, I took those children of my anguish into the street and burned them at midnight as exculpation of my self-condemnation of my failure as an artist to bring curative restoration to the human spirit. As the fire died and the ashes of my malcontent soul were washed away by a cleansing rain, I turned and walked away with only my hands in my pockets. My venery of self meaning led me across the US and produced a lifetime of regret and hope in only a few months. Arriving on the east coast, I made a new life in the seclusion of the rural south again undertaking the restorative art of the labor of my hands to produce the components of everyday life which then led me to my current dedication to 'escultra social'.I hope you enjoy my work.
(no imposters, same namers). Please continue to look for my guitar art pieces online and in galleries. Next up is a Dimebag Darrell flag guitar.Go let a cat scratch your belly. It will make a memory. And scars.ElDaga.ART, THE GUITAR, AND THE CREATION DONE. THE el daga (eld) Story."Immediately engaging". "A simple, yet complete definition of art" says el daga, an artist who is a true gospeler of "escultra social"-social sculpture- as a term derived from the German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys, who proposed that sculpture, if made from everyday materials and displayed in a "real world" setting, has the potential to affect society most broadly. Priced to sell ~ Get it while you can!
Do you really think you'll ever see another one like this...ever...really?!?

This No Reserve auction is for one (1) all original, extremely RARE, used/non-used 1991 Gibson Les Paul Custom electric guitar in Super, Dead MINT, like NEW condition that comes from a collection (of other assorted limited edition goodies)
that is smoke free, pet free, child free and climate
controlled environment. This guitar is in such good condition (for being 20 years old) it even smells new and could, without a doubt, pass for brand NEW! No joke!!! This time capsule of a guitar is museum quality!! That's right, it's that clean! However, the most striking feature that sets this particular Les Paul Custom out from ALL the rest, and makes this Custom a true Custom, is the finish/paint job. This LPC is an early Gibson Custom Shop Original that sports a special custom
finish of "Brunswick Bowling ball Blue" which was painted by the one and only Tom
Murphy. There is sparkle flake of every color in the
rainbow on every square inch of this
magnificent guitar... the whole freakin' guitar!... including the white binding! (which isn't even exactly white). The
entire binding that should normally be white is actually slight blue-ish with
multi-colored flake all in it and all over it as well. Depending on how the light hits it determines how much the colors explode off of the guitar. Even George Gruhn brought it out into the Nashville streets of sunlight to see for himself. This guitar will certainly only appreciate in value as time goes by. Now tell me, do you really think you'll ever see another Les Paul Custom like this... ever?!? Really?!? If you are or if you're not familiar with this ultra RARE guitar please check out the photos, keep on reading, and good luck on your bidding.

Specifications:

SN: 91681772

made in the U.S.A.

special custom finish (see photos)

carved maple top

mahogany

highly sought after guitar finisher/luthier in the world. In 1991 Tom was Gibson's senior master finish expert. Tom Murphy certainly is thee master as evidenced by the finish on this very
guitar. Because of
this guitar I have had the honor of talking with him, meeting him and
eventually hanging out with him at his workshop. Not only is he an artist's
artist, but he's a super cool dude too. As this guitar was produced in the very early days of the Custom Shop when their record keeping was, uh, er, um...not so good, not much is known about this particular guitar (other than it is what it is). However, while searching for this guitars birth records, I have found that there is a pretty cool story behind it which I have heard from most reliable sources (I could tell you, but then I'd have to... well, you know). First of all, "Brunswick Bowling ball Blue" is not actually even an official Gibson color and does not have a specific Gibson paint code...it's just the name Tom gave to the experimental color... for obvious reasons... of course. Secondly, because of an ever increasing demand for custom painted guitars during this time period there was an "unused room" at the Gibson factory that was given to Tom and his team to conduct singular experiments, one-offs and short runs. This "unused room" turned out to be the "Custom Shop" (that we all know and love today) and this guitar is a product of that time period and the experiments conducted in it.

      In 1991 the
Custom Shop produced a run of about 30 Standards in this "BBB" color. There was enough paint for one more guitar so Tom decided to shoot up a
Custom... which is the very LPC you see here. While being extremely RARE, I was told by Tom (and others) that this is not necessarily the only one of its kind... (kinda' like Chuck Norris' tears). There are possibly 4 or 5 (maybe 6 or even 7 or 8?) others out there but not necessarily all being this same exact color and not necessarily all from the same year and not necessarily all LP Customs. For instance, there was an ES-335 (355?) finished in a "BBB" color for B.B. King and Joe Perry has a Classic or a Standard in a similar red flake finish, and G.E. Smith (Hall & Oats and SNL band) has a pink-champagne flake Firebird. In fact, at one time I even owned the 1993 LPC CS in a slightly different "BBB" finish & nickel hardware. I did keep the nicer of the two... which, again, is the very LPC you see here. This guitar was originally acquired by me many moons ago out of the collection from Chicago area dealer/collector Larry Hendrickson of Axe in Hand. I had every intention on having it displayed in a climate controlled glass case in my castle, but then 2008 happened... and my castle disappeared.

     From our first
conversation 6 years prior to me actually hand delivering this guitar to Tom,
he remembered it. Exactly! He didn't even need to know the serial
number. He just remembered it. Fast forward to 2010. Because not much was known about this guitar, and after multiple phone calls with Tom, in August 2010 I drove this guitar to Tom at his workshop so that he could finally give this guitar the verification it deserves. I kid you not, as soon as he saw it his smile grew and his eyes widened like seeing a long-lost love after 20 years and he asked me "how I had managed to keep it in such pristine condition?". I reminded him that it was he who told me 6 years ago that this guitar was NOT made for playing...but for looking
at. To this I must confess, since I have owned this guitar (~ 9 years), I have played it once, and it sounds like it should. Just like a Les Paul Custom. Though it does have very slight signs of playwear, I don't even think any of the Hendricksons played this LPC that much either. This particular guitar was acquired by me as an
investment and not to be used/played anyway. No offense Tom, but this guitar needs to played... but not by me... so here it is for everyone's consideration because I just recently found a new castle that I'll need to pay for... in New Zealand. Upon Tom's suggestion, I brought this guitar to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, TN for an appraisal. This $50 appraisal letter from Gruhn Guitars is below word for word (excluding my name) and will be included in the auction.

Appraisal letter from Gruhn Guitars:

*******

From

Appraisal for my name here

I have personally inspected this instrument
The guitar described below is, in our opinion, a Gibson Les Paul Custom model made in the year 1991.
Serial
number 91681772 indicates that this was the 272nd guitar numbered in
Gibson’s Nashville factory on the 168th day of the year 1991. This
instrument has a custom color Brunswick Blue sparkle finish done by Tom
Murphy and has a Custom Shop decal on the back of the peghead. In
other respects it conforms to the typical specifications of the model
for the period in which it was made with carved maple top, mahogany
neck and back, single bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays,
multiple bound peghead with Gibson and split diamond shaped inlays, Les Paul Custom engraved on the truss rod cover, two humbucking pickups,
tune-o-matic bridge, stop tailpiece, gold plated metal hardware, and
original hardshell case. Tom Murphy was Gibson’s senior master finish
expert. He has confirmed that this was a special custom finish done by
him.

Current market value $X,000 (X Thousand Dollars)
George Gruhn (Signature)
*******
Even though George and I agreed (more or less) that he low-balled me on the appraisal, only because he had
nothing else to compare this guitar to (comparative price listing), he appraised this guitar in the amount that he did and in turn the starting bid will be slightly higher than the 2010 George Gruhn appraisal amount. (I do not agree with this amount, but I'm not George Gruhn either.)

Condition, Notables, Blems, & Repairs:

Neck is straight and true. No noticeable wear on any of the frets. No dings. No dents. Several hard to notice superficial basic cleaning scratches (easily buffed out). One (1) and only one (1) extremely small & extremely shallow "blue-jean rivet worm" on the back (it's in the photo of the guitar back and if you can see it, I'll give you the guitar for free!). Slight plectrum scratching on the pickguard (that's why there is a pickguard). Very minor pitting of the gold hardware (considering the 20 year age). Original hardshell case has a thicker "fuzzy" shroud and not the satin shroud. And last but not least: *a nice blemish in the form of a noticeable lacquer crack on the bottom of the neck where the fretboard & neck meet. There is also a preventative maintenance repair between the ~16th and ~18th fret (where the lacquer just couldn't take the shrinkage strain anymore) that was repaired by... (who else but?) Tom Murphy! I was not able to photograph the shrink cracking but the last two (2) photos show the Murphy repair. The issue of the lacquer cracks are as follows:

*First of all I am not a
luthier. However, as I remember, pertaining to this particular guitar, Tom explained it to me like this: (I hope I'm not giving away trade secrets here.) To get the desired 'perfect finish' when using sparkle flake you have to shoot multiple extra layers of lacquer on the whole finish/guitar between paint layers to get ALL the flakes
to "lie down" and get the desired smooth end-finish. (After all, it is a smooth finish that is desired as an end result and not a super grit sandpaper/orange peel finish.) So, it is not uncommon for this "lacquer cracking" to happen at certain joints on guitars with this type finish work on it. Therefore, there is so much rigid lacquer on the guitar and its joint areas, that when the wood shrinks over time (as it always will and does), the lacquer just simply cracks. Kind of like when the ice cream melts inside the chocolate-dipped coating. This is precisely what has happened to this guitar on the bottom of the neck where the neck/body joint is, right inside the
cutaway at the horn where the fretboard and neck are attached between the ~16th and ~18th fret. This was like that when I purchased the guitar ~9 years ago and it has not gotten any worse. When I
brought the guitar to Tom for verification, he did some minor
preventative maintenance/repair work by cleaning up the area of neck
shrinkage/lacquer loss at the ~16th and ~18th fret so it wouldn't get any worse. See last two photos. He would not address the other minor lacquer cracking along that same neck/fingerboard joint with any repairs as he said it was too superficial and that I shouldn't worry about it. So I don't. Also, this LPC is a bit heavier than your average LPC due to the extra layers of lacquer.

I am currently (still) waiting for Tom to send me the letter on his company letterhead that states basically everything I have already mentioned, including that it was in fact him that did the repair work/preventative maintenance. I don't know for certain, but I guess it's always possible that he might add some other tidbit of info. When I receive this letter from Tom, I will send it to the winner of this auction along with several photos of Tom and this guitar that I took of him in his workshop. If you need more photos, just ask...though do NOT ask me to take the guitar apart...that I will not do. If you have any
questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask before you bid. You can contact me through eBay messaging system (I have deleted my personal e-mail address from this listing due to overwhelming harassing spam from foreign idiots). If you are serious, I will make my personal e-mail and phone number available. Item will be professionally packaged for shipment. Winning bidder will without a doubt be very happy with this

hi Ed! okay, WOW! so as
far as i know i'm the 3rd owner. "check!?" yep, it was tough getting
ANY information about this guitar from the start but with some hard
work i feel as it was worth it to know this guitar's secret history.
were you aware that this guitar was/is a Tom Murphy job when you got
it? ...before Tom Murphy became "Tom Murphy". how's it look to YOU
after ~20 years? :). does it look any different from the day you bought
it? did the Hendrickson's acquire this guitar from you? i think it's
AWESOME that YOU, the Hendrickson's (and myself) have managed to keep
this guitar as new as it is. thanx for the additional info/history on
this guitar! any other info you could possibly provide for perspective
buyers would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance. if you're not
interested in bidding i'm happy for you to have at least seen it again
in its present condition. this truely is a special guitar & i'm
glad that we're able to be apart of it's history! thanx again, paül
(d_b) m/
Q: Hi Paul, I knew Tom had done the guitar and just found the pictures I
took of the guitar. I bought the brunswick blue standard also. I had
the original shipping boxes for a long time but finally got rid of all
of them, they said brunswick blue sparkle on them. It looks the same as
when it left me. I don't remeber how I sold the guitar but I think at
one of the big guitar shows. Benny Cintioli who owns Cintioli music was very good friends with Henry Juszkiewisc and got a lot of very special Gibsons
sent to him. When I go there next I will see if he has the original
shipment paperwork for the guitar and if he does forward it too you.
Always wondered what happened to that guitar. Good Luck. Thanks, Ed

The Story:

For those that don't know, Tom Murphy is arguably the most
highly sought after guitar finisher/luthier in the world.

Winning bidder will without a doubt be very happy with this
purchase!! Nothing really more to tell about this beautiful specimen. Whew!!

This
guitar came from Cintioli Music in Philadelphia, Pa. I was the original

hi Ed! okay, WOW! so as
far as i know i'm the 3rd owner. "check!?" yep, it was tough getting
ANY information about this guitar from the start but with some hard
work i feel as it was worth it to know this guitar's secret history.
were you aware that this guitar was/is a Tom Murphy job when you got
it? ...before Tom Murphy became "Tom Murphy". how's it look to YOU
after ~20 years? . does it look any different from the day you bought
it? did the Hendrickson's acquire this guitar from you? i think it's

Good Luck. Thanks, Ed
