2009 Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard VOS
The '58 to '60 Les Paul Standard was the first solidbody electric guitar to become truly, and unquestionably, collectible. When the sunburst finish met the Les Paul Standard in 1958, the result was phenomenal. All the right elemants came together in 1958 to create musical magic! The '58 was the first burst with two humbucking pickups and a Tune-O-Matic Bridge. The '58 is also affectionately known as the first love to number of players who have forged their musical pathways utilizing the incredible tonal characteristics and playability created by the artistry of the 1958 Les Paul Standard: players like Duane Allman, Jimmy Page and Slash, to name a few.
In 2006 the Gibson Custom Shop proudly introduced the Vintage Original Spec series of historic solid body guitars. The 2009 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1958, '59 and '60 Les Paul Standard is the most exact recreation of their legendary predecessor ever produced. With the release of this new model, Gibson Custom takes the art of recreating the company's legendary Holy Grail to an entirely new level. Every subtle detail of this model has been painstakingly reproduced, and nothing has been left to chance. From the gold top-hat control knobs with dial pointers to the molded bell-shaped truss rod cover to the period correct cream pickguard and nickel tuners with green buttons, the Gibson 50th Anniversary 1958 to '60 Les Paul Standard reaches back into time and delivers the absolute ultimate in vintage guitar recreation.
This 2009 Gibson Historic 1958 Reissue Les Paul VOS is as close as it get's to owning an original 1958 Les Paul Standard. The Bourbon Burst finish looks just like a 50s burst that's darkened over the years and it really shows off the grain of the wood. She's everything a Les Paul ought to be: beautiful, strong and soulful. This guitar is extremely light, weighing 8 lbs 10 oz. - light on your back as well as super resonate. She has a beautiful warm voice, TONE to die for, a very powerful presence, plenty of midrange honk and long lasting sustain. The frets are nice and large, for wider bends.
