This is a real 1963 Gibson Les Paul Custom with original case offered at NO RESERVE! In 1961, Gibson, in their infinite wisdom, decided to stop making the single cut thick-bodied Les Paul that we all know and love and replace it with the guitar you see here. This particular guitar, serial # 120121 is dated to 1963 towards the end of the run. Gibson, reportedly at Les Paul's urging, returned to the original Paul design late 1963 and this shape became the SG.
This is a great chance to obtain a true vintage guitar that can be used as a player. It may not be pristine enough for you collectors out there, but IT PLAYS AND SOUNDS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! This guitar is dripping in MOJO. I defy you to pick up this guitar and not play your favorite blues or R n B riffs.
The original Gold plating is mostly disappeared as this guitar has been played. A previous owner (perhaps the original owner) has "engraved" his initials and address on the control cavity cover. He also "engraved his initials on the Gibson tailpiece that actually works (and the guitar stays in tune!) There are bumps and scrapes all over the guitar.....Just like those relic guitars, BUT THESE ARE REAL bumps and scrapes that have been earned from years of gigging, not faked in a custom shop.
The original electronics and tuners are here. The original Gibson case has the prerequisite tape on the handle, but all latches work and the case is in rather good condition.
THE GUITAR HAS BEEN REFRETTED to play perfectly. The original Fretless Wonder frets were almost totally gone so we had the guitar refretted. It was an excellent job and THIS GUITAR PLAYS GREAT! If you'd like, we can have the guitar set-up for your string and action preference and have the guitar PLEK'D for an additional $200.00------- BUT I DON'T THINK IT NEEDS IT!!!!! THIS GUITAR PLAYS GREAT!!! (Have I mentioned that THIS GUITAR PLAYS GREAT!!!!) I've owned hundreds of vintage guitars over the years but this is an outstanding playing/ sounding guitar! You cannot help but grin like an idiot when you play this guitar.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of history, a great sounding axe, and not be afraid to gig with it for fear of dinging your megabuck vintage collectible. This is a PLAYER quality collectible not a guitar to be put in a glass case but one to be played.
