Gibson Les Paul Custom Replica/Copy
Don't let that fool you. This is a top quality instrument that I stripped of all hardware, right down to the last screw, and reworked and rebuilt from the ground up. Things I had done: I first had the neck reset and professionally reworked. That included new frets and refiling of those frets. I told the luthier who did the work (Al Burnside from Oak Hill, WV, a master luthier) that I wanted the guitar to play like a real Gibson. He did an INCREDIBLE job. No fret buzz and low, low action. A new TUSQ nut was installed and slotted accordingly. This guitar plays and sounds incredible. It is set up and adjusted to play light gauge strings (.10 small e)
I installed the following hardware.
Authentic Grover Deluxe nickel Tuners
TUSQ graph tech nut
TUSQ graph tech saddle bridge nickel (6mm posts, like an Epiphone)
Nickel Strap Lock posts
Gotoh Nickel Tail Piece
Allparts brand cream pickguard
Allparts cream pickup rings
Allparts cream output jack plate
Allparts pickguard hardware
Allparts amber bell tone/volume knobs
All USA alpha push/pull pots
USA Switchcraft brand switch
Allparts cream switch washer
Allparts vintage amber tip
Authentic Gibson Brand truss rod adustment cover
Dragonfire Cream/nickel Coil splitting high output 57' buckers
Jimmy Page wiring harness with U.S. Alpha pots (read below for details)
MojoTone vintage Dijon capacitors
Brand new set of Elixir lights (.10's)
Every nut and screw on this entire guitar is Allparts brand nickel. I CANT STAND GOLD HARDWARE! Yuck! I did the wiring myself using a US made Jimmy Page wiring kit. The groundwire is Pushback style cloth braided wire and the rest is all high quality US made. Both of the tone and both of the volume knobs are all push/pull that have a different function, such as Series, Parallel, in phase, out of phase, Coil splitting, etc. I think there are like 22 combinations of sound you can get. You can look the specifics elsewhere online, but it's fun to play with and sounds just incredible. The dragonfire pickups sound amazing, as always. I can get almost any tone I want playing this through my '59 bassman. Anything from humbucker growl to classic P90 sound to an almost crystal clear vintage strat tone with the split.
So in summary, I set out to build a dream guitar for way less than the 4K for a real Diamond Headstock LP and I did just that. I have had real LP's and Japanese Epiphone Elites and this plays as good as any I have every owned or played, seriously. The only thing she needs are the rear covers (see pic) and that's only because I couldn't decide on black, creme, or a set of those really, really cool see through back covers! Alas, I never got around to that part before my interests changed and I decided to sell off some of my guitars to fund other summertime hobbies.
She weights just over 9 lbs. on my bathroom floor scale. The finish is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. Some serious AAA flame action going on here, folks. I really, REALLY, hate to see this one go, but I made a promise and now I have to keep it. I decided to splurge this spring on a brand new, shiny, Jackson Kayak (I was at the kayak store and the lust and heat of the moment got the best of me) and I told my wife that if she *let* me get the new kayak I'd sell some of my guitar stuff to cover that cost. I'm really enjoying my new white water boat but a promise is a promise. *Sigh*
This guitar is also being sold in the local trader magazine so I reserve the right to end the auction early in case of a local sale.
Thanks for looking.
